She could barely contain her excitement in the morning.
"Mommy can we go to school now?"
"No sweetie. Its only 7:30. Your school doesn't start until 9."
She took extra care in getting dressed.
"I want to wear a dress momma. M always wears dresses to school."
Finally it was time to leave. She was so excited, her wings flapping so hard that she could have flown to school.
"Momma, today is going to be the best day. I can't wait!"
She spotted M in the hallway. They ran to each other and hugged. M's blonde head with ribbons bent to Bunny's brunette head with a high ponytail. They whispered secrets. M approved of Bunny's purple dress, her favorite color is purple.
When it was time to go into class, the girls held hands. They waived off their mother's attempts to say good bye. There were more important things to do.
At pick up time, the teacher commented about the upcoming play date. She mentioned the girls held hands and played together the whole day. The girls were excited about their picnic at the park. They didn't even mind when they found out S was joining them. Bunny declared that S could be the look out for prickly weeds when they picked dandelions because S "is a boy and that's his job".
Bunny and M shared their lunches. They ran on the playground together. They picked dandelions and violets. They danced on picnic tables and "put on a show" for the mommies.
They were so sad when it was time for the play date to end. But they made plans to play at each other's houses. I think Bunny would have brought M home with her if she could.
As we pulled out of the parking lot Bunny sighed "I miss M. She is my best friend." My heart nearly burst with joy.

The Ship of Friends
There are many different kinds of people on this ship. Some are those you just wave and smile at when you see them. There are some you stop and chat with. Still others you call when you want to have coffee or go to the movies. There are those you call when you need a friendly ear or a shoulder to cry on.
And if you are lucky, really lucky, you will find a true friend on this ship. You will find someone who is willing to ignore all of your crazy issues, the fact that you never call or that you forget birthdays. They will embrace you when you are down, laugh when you are happy, and give you a kick in the ass when you need it. They will drag you kicking and screaming to the park for a run because they know you are training for a triathalon, even when they know you'd rather sit and have a beer.
They will throw parties and invite a cute boy, a boy who would later become your husband. You will return the favor by getting married and having her stand up with you, dressed in a purple dress. Okay maybe the dress isn't the good part. Maybe the favor is returned when your cute boy asks his cute friend to be his best man, a cute friend who would later become her friend.
You will return the favor when on one drunken evening you will ask why they haven't kissed. You will demand to know why they are not together when they are so perfect for each other. You will give her a kick in the ass when she needs it.
You will fly to Mexico with your boy to watch her marry her boy. You will be filled with happiness because your best friend married your husband's best friend. You will be forever linked because you had a hand (or a kick) in each other's happiness.
You will adopt a beautiful girl right after she gives birth to a beautiful girl. You cannot believe the luck, two girls so close in age. It was meant to be. Your girls were destined to be friends.
Despite the geographical distance between you, you will remain close. You will fly with your boy and your daughter to visit her and her boy and her daughter (well daughters, you can't be equal in all things). They will let you stay in their apartment, sharing their lives with you. Your boys will play video games. Your daughters will play with dinosaurs (one who loves them, one who cooks them) and read books. You will run and shop and chat.
If you can find this, you will be so lucky.

Is This What A Mother of a Teenager Feels Like?
Today, Bunny's cousin A "called" to see what Bunny would like for her upcoming birthday (the answer - a pony). Well actually her mother called but A and Bunny spoke on the phone for 10 minutes.
That is if you can say that a three year old and an almost three year old can have a conversation. It went something like this:
Bunny: Hi
A: Hi
Bunny: Hi A
A: What you doing?
Bunny: Playing with water dinos (puts phone down runs to get one of the dinos) See.
A: Hi
Bunny: Hi
A: I play with make up.
Bunny: What make up?
A: Bubblegum
Bunny: What?
A: You come sleep over.
Bunny: Yeah.
A: You can sleep in my bed.
Bunny: Hi
A: unintelligible
Bunny: Hi
A: Stop saying hi
Bunny: Hi
A: What?
Bunny: (puts phone on mute) Where A
A: Bunny you hang up?
Bunny: Hi
A: (hangs up phone)
Bunny: Hi

What Happens If You Don't Blog For Almost A Week?
Would anyone miss you? Would anyone care?
Well I don't know the answer to those questions, but I'm back to let you know what I should have told you earlier. I'm in the midst of a semi-hiatus. Things have been a bit crazy in the But Why Mommy world.
Last weekend we had our best friends in the whole wide world visit us from New York. You see Bubs' best friend from college, M, met my best friend from law school, MamaCarter, at our wedding and they got married. They also have a little girl Monkey who is just a few months younger than Bunny. They are now best friends too. They shared toys, books and even colds. Check out a recap of the weekend here.
After we recovered from their visit, we had to start packing because Bubs and I are going to Las Vegas today for a long overdue vacation. Bubs' cousin decided to get married in Vegas over my birthday weekend so we are going to celebrate the wedding and my 39th birthday. Although it will be a lot of fun, I'm sad about leaving Bunny for that long. I know she'll have fun with my parents.
So I'll be incommunicado for most of the weekend. I may Tweet occasionally. And I will also post my BFL picks on Friday live from the Caesars Palace Sports Book, just like a real live gambler.
Speaking of the BFL, for all my smack talking I pretty much laid an egg. I probably finished dead freaking last with a mediocre 7-8. Bubs kicked my arse with an impressive 11-4 record. But there is always this week.
